post week 10 wrap-up

yep, i skipped last week sorryyyyyy guyyyyyzzzzzzz

but here we are, after another exciting college football weekend. let's run down:

AP and USA Today Top 25, Week 11

the weekend's notables:
1. UNRANKED NORTHWESTERN BEATS #9 NEBRASKA IN CORNHUSKER COUNTRY 28-25 AHHHHHHHHHHHH! now, how did this happen, you ask? well, despite all you assholes telling me about how great Dan Persa is (he's the best quarterback in the Big Ten! okay... and that's supposed to mean something?), he didn't even play in the second half as he was injured - again. game credit goes to backup QB and all-around beautiful athlete sophomore Kain Colter, who ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third. Northwestern forced two turnovers from Nebraska, whose pretty quarterback Taylor Martinez threw decently but ultimately couldn't get a win. embarrassing.
consequence: Nebraska now #19 on both polls, seems a little harsh but okay. Northwestern remains, and will always remain, unranked.

2. #1 LSU beats #2 Alabama after a game-long stalemate in what people wanted to call the "Game of the Century." the Tigers got the edge with a field goal in overtime to make the score 9-6. geeeez those are some defensive teams. guess who's getting fired or maybe assaulted on campus this week? Alabama's kickers, who missed a total of FOUR FIELD GOALS, any of which would have spelled another overtime or victory for the Crimson Tide. for everyone wanting to see a rematch of these two in the BCS National Championship, shut the fuck up you don't know what you're talking about that would be the worst national championship ever.
consequence: LSU stays at #1 and now gets the top bid for the BCS National Championship. Alabama only slips one spot to #3 AP, #4 in the USA Today, making it the highest-ranked team that is not undefeated. which means arch rivals Oklahoma State are now #2 boooo.

3. unranked Iowa beats #15 Michigan 24-16, which i predicted! Iowa's defense stepped up to the plate after the Hawkeyes just lost to GOD-AWFUL MINNESOTA last week. they were able to stop so many of Michigan's attempts at a touchdown, especially when it came down to the wire with only 16 seconds left in the game. now, the Wolverines have very little chance at the Big Ten Championship. good riddance, they were overrated from the start.
consequence: Michigan drops to #24 in the AP, #22 in the USA Today; Iowa stays unranked.

4. unranked UCLA beats #19 Arizona State 29-28, unranked Louisville beats #24 West Virginia 38-35. ehh whatevs. not that surprising or interesting.
consequence: Arizona State and West Virginia peace outta the rankings.

games to keep an eye on:
1. #10 Virginia Tech at #21 Georgia Tech. ummm, i have nothing to say about this. it's an ACC showdown. both teams are ranked and have pretty good records. yeahhh.

2. #7 Oregon at #4 Stanford. we LOVE high-ranked matchups, because that means people get knocked out of national championship runnings! i am seriously gunning for Oregon to win, because i hate Stanford and do not believe they should be in the national championship.

3. #19 Nebraska at #12 Penn State. another Big Ten showdown, right after Nebraska comes off of its embarrassing loss to Northwestern. this'll be a fun one to watch.

4. #20 Auburn at #15 Georgia. SEC time. both teams have fluctuated in and out of the top 25. not terribly exciting, but the loser will most likely get booted out.

  2. HI ANONYMOUS! WOW SOMEONE READS THIS!
as much as i hate to say it, i think OSU has a good shot, but only if they finish with a perfect season. Bedlam is in Stillwater this year, so they have a pretty good chance... but they also looked a bit rough against K-State, whom OU beat the shit out of, so who knows?!

DISAGREE. As a (hopeless) fan of UCLA, every win is big. (Because we lose WAY TOO MUCH.) So this game was huge. And we won by one point.

Plus, our ridiculously shitty QB Kevin Prince threw a similarly ridiculous pass on an impossible 3rd down to put us in the lead. Take that.

Also, BOOMER SOONER. No football this week??? I'm lost. Gonna go drink a beer now. Thanks.

P.S. I am a guy and dig this football blog. I think it's the inordinate amount of swearing and love for sooner football. Keep it up, champ.
