it was a really exciting weekend of college football - lots of upsets, and Northwestern won something, how fun.
BCS and AP Top 25, Week 13
the weekend's notables:
1. #2 OKLAHOMA STATE UPSET BY UNRANKED IOWA STATE 37-31!!! muahahaha. except oops there goes any Big 12 chance of going to the ship. AND Oklahoma plays Iowa State this Saturday (and i'm going!! ahhhhhh except WHO CARES NOW), and then plays OSU the week after... anyways, this game took two overtimes - and though OSU quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 479 yards, his team turned it over FIVE times. gross.
consequence: Oklahoma State drops two spots to #4; Iowa State remains unranked.
2. #5 Oklahoma breaks Annie's heart and loses to #22 Baylor 45-38. it was down to the wire, and OU made a comeback to tie up the game (OU's kicker Hunnicutt didn't FUCK UP this time). but coach Bob Stoops called a timeout after our field goal, giving Baylor enough time to score on the last drive and beat us by a touchdown. dying dying dying dying dying
consequence: Oklahoma slips to #9 and Baylor shifts up to #18 ew
3. #4 Oregon loses to #18 USC 38-35 in the weirdest game ever. i am pleased by this. my hope is that every single team in the top 8 (every team that outranks Oklahoma) will lose, thus upping our chances to go to the championship. it will happen! no it won't. apparently this game goes to USC's quarterback Matt Barkley, who threw all over the Ducks' defense. in the end, a missed Oregon field goal left them behind. yay there you go Kang family.
consequence: Oregon falls just behind OU to #10; USC stays unranked in the BCS ranking but is #10 in the AP LOLWTF? derrr because USC isn't allowed to play a bowl this season due to some NCAA violations #thanksreggiebush
4. Unranked North Carolina State beats #7 Clemson 37-13. Clemson played super sloppily for their second loss this season. meanwhile, NC State still needs to win this weekend against Maryland to be bowl-eligible. yeah, they aren't even bowl eligible yet. Clemson was without their best receiver Sammy Watkins, who sat out after injuring his shoulder, but that's no excuse for a 24-point loss.
consequence: Clemson takes it to #17, which is a little harsh, no? NC State, of course, stays unranked.
5. #13 Kansas State beats #23 Texas 17-13. jesus what a boring ass game. the Wildcats gained only 121 total yards (like... what) to beat Texas, whose defense fought it out. like a lot of the sad games this week, it came down to the last play. Texas offense SUCKS and could not score more than one touchdown -- the only touchdown they have scored in the last two games. ugh Big 12 you disgust me right now
consequence: K-State up to #11, Texas at the bottom rung, #25.
games to keep an eye on:
1. #3 Arkansas plays at #1 LSU YES YES KNOCK THOSE TOP 8 TEAMS OUT AHAHAHAAAA. still don't understand why LSU made their schedule this way. but it looks like they're doing fine. i'd love to see them lose, but i'd also love to play them in the BCS, so it's a win-win sitch.
2. #2 Alabama at #24 Auburn. Auburn's been rull shitty and inconsistent this season but WhO knOwZz? it could happen. and it would be awesome.
3. #22 Notre Dame at #6 Stanford. i mean, obvi Stanford is going to win, but maybe this will knock Notre Dame outta the top 25 for the rest of the season. i don't like either of these teams... they're both like that one douchebag from your high school who's a huge dick but is super hot and everyone thinks he's awesome. know what i mean? yeah good.
4. #17 Clemson at #12 South Carolina. let's be real, no one cares about any team ranked below the top 10. amirite.
5. #13 Georgia at #23 Georgia Tech. ditto, except this game probably matters to people in Georgia, just a wild crazy guess.
6. #19 Penn State at #16 Wisconsin. i love Wisconsin's football team (YEAH SHOUTOUT KAITLIN AND SVABEK FAMILY) and i think they're going to take this one easily. also... eww Penn State right now.
*Sooners play Iowa State tomorrow! stay tuned for a disgustingly Crimson and Creme photo of my dad and me at the game <3 <3 <3
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN THIS WEEK FOR OU TO PLAY IN THE BCS:
1. #8 undefeated Houston needs to lose this game to Tulsa STAT. come on, middle-school boyfriend Trey Watts, wreck 'em please.
2. #3 Arkansas loses PITIFULLY. i'm talking, like, gets bu-fu'd by LSU.
3. #2 Alabama loses to Auburn PLEASE.
4. #5 Virginia loses to Virginia Tech. this one is doable, come on VT!
5. #6 Stanford loses badly to Notre Dame yes yes yes
6. #7 Boise State and their ridiculously easy season is derailed by Wyoming. not going to happen. but not sure Boise State would play in the BCS before OU would anyways.
7. and of course, #9 Oklahoma beats Iowa State this weekend, and Oklahoma State next weekend. COME ON!
