#1 oklahoma sooners

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO WRITE THIS POST FOR SO LONG I'M SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW SDFHBSDFBHDSFKHJBSDKF

okay, how do i put this? i. love. the Sooners. i give up trips to the mall to stay home to watch OU football with my father. that's saying a lot.
in Oklahoma, football is all we have. there's nothing we exceed at, brag about, live and breathe quite like our college football team. they are the pride of the state.
i realize this all sounds very pathetic, but i don't give a fuck.
there's really nothing else you can say about a football team that's been named the most prestigious program by ESPN, the only program who has had four coaches with 100+ wins, seven National Championships and five Heisman winners. so let's begin.

people often ask me what a Sooner is. i made an A+ in Oklahoma History, but that doesn't mean i know what the fuck i'm talking about. according to my perhaps-accurate knowledge, the term comes from the Oklahoma Land Run. basically, all these pioneers wanted to live in Oklahoma Territory (why) so they held a land run - when the gun went off, anyone who wanted to their own land ran fast as fuck to stake their place. Boomers were settlers who went running at the "boom" of the gun, but Sooners were settlers who went too soon - basically, they cheated and started running before the land run began. Boomer Sooner is basically the big fan chant. in other words, a Sooner is... a cheater. YAY

colors: CRIMSON AND CREAM, BABY
conference: Big 12 - South - at least for now. apparently they've been talking to the Pac-12, along with Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. OU President David Boren said they'll make a decision within the next three weeks about whether or not to stay. this is safe to say: if the Sooners leave the Big 12, the conference will fall apart
mascot: Boomer and Sooner, who are super cute horses that can do standing back tucks while in these very heavy costumes:
the Sooner Schooner is also fun - after every touchdown, we drive this baby out onto the field. PETA gets pissed, but like, whatever.

coach: Bob Stoops, 13th season. GOD, WHERE DO I START?!?!?! the man's record at OU is 117-28. HAS ONLY LOST TWO GAMES AT HOME. EVER. RIDICULOUS. he also has the nation's longest home winning streak at 33, and the most wins of the decade of any BCS school at 109. has taken the Sooners to 11 straight bowl games in 11 seasons. but what do i love most about Bob? not just that he gives great candy on Halloween, but he's loyal - as you can imagine, NFL teams are on his nuts every year, but he stays with the Sooners.
ALSO - BOB STOOPS LIVES FIVE MINUTES AWAY FROM ME. yes, i drive by his CASTLE OF A HOME almost every day. it's literally a castle. it has a moat. a real moat. my dad once shook his hand at the local Waffle House. his claim to fame.

quarterback: #12 junior Landry Jones. is a baller. he took over in 2009 when then-starter and Heisman winner Sam Bradford was out with a shoulder injury. after Bradford left for the NFL, Jones started for real in 2010. he turned out to be AWESOME. he's already beat past Heisman winner Jason White's record for passing yards, and will soon beat Bradford's number by the end of the season. he's also a super nice guy and is getting married to Oklahoma women's basketball player Whitney Hand:
ALSO MY PARENTS ALMOST BOUGHT HIS PARENTS' HOUSE AND THEY SAID THE HOUSE WAS REALLY NICE YEAH.
people say he's almost definitely on the list of candidates for the 2011 Heisman Trophy. i do not disagree one bit.
hottie index: a completely biased 10/10, especially because he once had a chester (child molester) mustache.

players to know:
#85 senior wide receiver Ryan Broyles: probably the best wide receiver in the game right now. attended Norman High School, my rival high school. was arrested sometime as a freshman but rehabilitated himself. is now awesome.
#22 sophomore running back Roy Finch
#24 senior wide receiver Dejuan Miller
#31 junior running back Dominique Whaley
#28 senior linebacker Travis Lewis
#97 junior defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland
#21 sophomore running back Brennan Clay

the low-down: we're losing one of the greatest running backs in the world to the Dallas Cowboys, Demarco Murray, SHOWN HERE WITH ME BECAUSE WE ARE DATING NOT REALLY BUT I WISH:
best day of my life
anyways, we'll miss him but it's okay - we have an unbelievable group of 18 starters coming back and a shit ton of awesome running backs to help fill his void. our quarterback is inarguably one of the best in college football this year, and he's already proven that he and Broyles are stronger than ever together. the Sooners showed on Saturday they're not lacking in offense (which never was a problem anyways) or defense (which used to be pretty iffy). things are looking great. i'm so excited. games to watch: all of them. games to worry about: none of them. i say the Sooners are off to a National Championship this year - no one else in the top 25 look as strong as we do.
second game: after beating Tulsa to a pulp on Saturday (47-14; also my middle school boyfriend from 7th grade is now the starting running back for Tulsa, so that was fun), Sooners head to Florida to play #5 Florida State next. this is the only game that may give us trouble, if any.
