#2 alabama crimson tide

so yesterday (Saturday) we saw the first week of college football. partly because i'm lazy and partly because i was moving into/cleaning MY FABULOUS NEW VINTAGE APARTMENT, i wasn't able to finish my posts. so i'll do them now, and then start my gameday recap post tomorrow!

"Crimson Tide" sounds like a polite name for a woman's time of the month... but it's just an Alabama football thing.

colors: crimson and white
conference: SEC
mascot: Big Al, an elephant
soulja boy tell 'em
coach: Nick Saban, fifth year. is a football coach god. former head coach of the NFL Miami Dolphins, former head coach of LSU, Michigan State, Toledo. with an eight-year, $32 million contract, he is one of the highest paid coaches in the country, professional or college. has a 135-53-1 record as a college football coach. basically... he's awesome.
even Forbes thinks so
quarterback: yesterday's game served as an audition of sorts for sophomore A.J. McCarron and freshman Phillip Sims. they both did well, but McCarron came out on top. still word on whether or not starting QB is his.
McCarron
hottie index: cute enough, looks like a baby. 5/10

Sims
this is actually a good picture of him... the rest are just comical.
hottie index: 2/10

the low-down: the Tide had an iffy and disappointing 10-3 season last year, losing to #19 South Carolina, #10 LSU and #2 Auburn. but when you look at their schedule from last season, you understand the losses - 8 out of the 13 teams they played were ranked. that is unheard of. luckily, they smoked Michigan State in the Citrus Bowl. Alabama's biggest losses this year? one would be running back Mark Ingram, who won the 2009 Heisman Trophy as a sophomore - he was Alabama's first ever. now plays for the Saints <3 he also looks like a human teddy bear:
dawwwwwww
the other would be wide receiver Julio Jones, now playing for the Atlanta Falcons. these two led 'Bama to a perfect 14-0 and the BCS National Championship in 2009. and now they be gone.
so now what? they showed in their first game against Kent State that they are still beasts, beating them 48-7. what impressed most, though, was the Tide defense. hopefully it will hold up against these tough opponents: Penn State, Arkansas, Florida, LSU, and Auburn.
second game: at Penn State. this will be a tough one, or maybe not. if offense stays even close to as strong as defense does, they have no problem.
