post week 1 wrap-up

the games were exciting, but definitely overshadowed by talk of teams leaving the Big 12 for the Pac 12 and so on and so forth.
but we're not going to get into that until it actually happens. college football is about college football.

AP and USA Today Top 25, Week 1

last week's notables:
1. Baylor did indeed beat TCU on Friday, just like i had called it. see, guys? i do know what i'm talking about, kind of. so my boyfriend, who told me, "you don't know anything about college football," can suck it. the game was what we call an upset, when the team we don't expect to wins actually does.
consequence: TCU falls to the bottom, but still ranked. ughhhh

2. South Florida upsets Notre Dame. after some weather delays, this unranked team pulled it out and beat #16 Notre Dame 23-20. hilarious. it was the fourth time ND has lost its season opener in 15 seasons.
consequence: Notre Dame peaces out of the Top 25. see yuhhhh. shouldn't have been there in the first place.

3. #4 LSU beats #3 Oregon in an awesome season opener 40-27. that's not a mistake or a fluke - LSU showed itself as the better team. the Ducks suck. LSU's fill-in QB did really well in the place of suspended Jordan Jefferson. i know Darron Thomas is kicking himself - he went to Oregon instead of LSU after being told he couldn't be starting QB.
consequence: LSU moves up to #2 while Oregon gets kicked down to #13/14.

4. #25 USC and #23 Auburn barely beat their God-awful opponents, showing they suck already. USC barely squeaked by against Minnesota 19-17, maybe partially due to the fact that their offense completely collapsed in the second half. 2010 BCS National Champions Auburn beat Utah State 42-38, but Auburn coach Gene Chizik had only this to say: "Offensively and defensively we're a long way off of being able to win very many games right now." no shit.
consequence: USC leaves (seriously - why were you there to begin with) and Auburn doesn't get to stay in the AP. hangs on at #22 in the USA Today.

games to keep an eye on:
1. #20 Mississippi State vs. #23 Auburn - with the way Auburn played last weekend, they're going to lose and completely fall off the map here.

2. #12 South Carolina vs. #19 Georgia - Georgia lost last week to Boise State, so they might be out for revenge.

3. #16 Notre Dame vs. Michigan - a well-matched game. both teams are jokes and now floundering in a sea of mediocrity. might be fun to watch them both fuck up.

4. #2 Alabama vs. Penn State - not that i think Bama will have any problems, but Penn State is underrated.
