post week 2 wrap-up

I'M SO SORRY TO MY THREE READERS THAT I HAVEN'T UPDATED THIS IN SO LONG.

last weekend was a solid one for college football. let's see what happened.

AP and USA Today Top 25, Week 3

last week's notables:
1. Auburn beats #16 Mississippi State 41-34 after barely beating Utah State last week and falling off the Top 25. they led as halftime started and stayed ahead to keep a 2-0 streak.
consequence: Auburn reappears in the polls at #21 in AP, #19 in USA Today.

2. Texas BARELY beats unranked BYU 17-16 after trailing for three quarters. why'd they win? because they benched their awful quarterback Garrett Gilbert and put in former QB star Colt McCoy's little brother  sophomore Case McCoy.
consequence: Texas doesn't really move around. they're ranked #23 in AP, #21 in USA Today.

3. #21 Missouri upset by unranked Arizona State. love upsets! final score: 37-30 in overtime. who gets the credit? Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler, who passed for 353 yards, three touchdowns, and ZERO interceptions.
consequence: Missouri released from rankings. seeeee yaaaaaa.

4. #3 Alabama beats #23 Penn State 27-11. sorry Cam. Bama's quarterback AJ McCarron apparently has the starting QB job now, and he's fucking great at it. their defense also prevailed and kept Penn State from gaining yardage.
consequence: Alabama back up to #2, right under OKLAHOMAAAA.

5. unranked Michigan beats #16 Notre Dame in a CRAZY ASS GAME 35-31. when i say crazy, i mean CRAZY. Michigan scored with TWO SECONDS LEFT in a risky 16-yard pass for a touchdown. it was college football magic. Notre Dame was leading all the way until the last minute of the game - then Michigan scored a touchdown to make it 28-24. Notre Dame scored again to make everyone think they were going to end the game, but Michigan walked away with the win. CRAZY.
consequence: Notre Dame disappears from rankings, hopefully for good.

games to keep an eye on:
1. #1 Oklahoma at #5 Florida State. WORRISOME. i have complete faith in my Sooners, but this is probably the hardest game they'll play. especially since it's away. good test of whether or not OU will be a BCS National Championship contender (hint: the answer is yes).

2. #3 LSU at #25 Mississippi State on Thursday. since Mississippi State lost to Auburn last weekend, maybe they'll get their shit together. but it'll be hard to beat LSU, who beat the higher-ranked Oregon in their season opener.

3. #8 Oklahoma State at Tulsa. not that anything too exciting will happen, but yay i love my home state!
